Bulawayo is one of the country's most attractive cities, and a major centre for mining, ranching, commerce and industry. The tree lined streets were said to be designed to be wide enough to allow a full span of oxen and a wagon to turn around. The present City Hall, stands on the site of the 1896 laager and houses many items of historical value. The Railways Museum, in the city, houses engines, rolling stock and exhibits of machinery dating back to the early days of 20th century. Of special interest, are the antique locomotives and the 'museum on wheels'.

For quiet relaxation in the city, there are two adjoining parks, the Centenary Park and the Central Park. In addition, the park also features a modern theatre, a game reserve, an aviary, a miniature steam railway and an olympic-size swimming pool. Bulawayo provides the visitor with a comprehensive range of amenities in the form of theatre, nightclubs, restaurants, cinemas and shops. It is also the home of a vigorous sporting scene which include racing, golf, tennis, soccer and bowling.
